AddThis & Osmosus

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Very excited to announce that starting immediately you’ll see Osmosus included in AddThis. Now you can share your favorite URL’s and information directly to your Osmosus GreenSpace from any of the over 450,000 Web sites that AddThis is on.

Here’s some excerpts from our announcement email:

What’s AddThis?
AddThis is the most popular online sharing tool in the world. Served 30 billion times a month to 500+ million people in 50+ languages. AddThis makes it easy for you to bookmark and share information to your favorite social destinations like Osmosus.

How does AddThis work with Osmosus?
* We’re a part of AddThis’s recently announced Service Directory.

* When you’re sharing to Osmosus for the first time, hover over the AddThis button/menu on the page you wish to share and click on the “more” link to get a longer list of the services available. Find Osmosus and click to share.

* Because the AddThis menu is smart, the next time that you want to share to us from AddThis, you’ll see that we’re listed in the compact menu. From here on out you’ll be able to share to Osmosus with just one click.

*Once you’ve shared an item to your GreenSpace it becomes a G-LOG item and you can edit it just like any other G-LOG. And, other Osmosus can comment on it, and share it too!

Finally, we support embedded video

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

After a round of dev with some fixes and additions, it’s finally possible to embed video - among other things  - into your G-LOG posts on Osmosus. Of course, we’ve made it easy. Here’s our announcement video and a quick primer from our guide and ambassador Johnny Osmosus on how to get it done.

This is our Announcement video:

This is our How-To Video:

Obviously we support YouTube. But you can also embed video from Vimeo. Recently I’ve learned that you can also embed content from Scribd.com as well like this excellent document:

We hope this enhances the value of Osmosus!

Osmosus Offices and Homes Dark for Earth Hour

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Osmosus will participate in Earth Hour initiative tonight by darkening our offices and our homes for the hour to help raise awareness of global warming and climate change. We plan to turn off and unplug all non-essential appliances (we’re keeping the fridges on) and, of course, all lights and computers etc. We  would welcome any feedback from other Osmosans on the best courses of action overall. See you - or rather not see you — later.

Osmosus Official Public Launch

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

It’s an exciting day for Osmosus! We have officially launched to the public and we’re incredibly thrilled about welcoming the world to Osmosus. We also want to announce and welcome our launch partner The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation!

It’s Fruit Tree Time! (say that three times)

To celebrate our launch, Osmosus will fund the planting of a new orchard of fruit trees with The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation (FTPF) as part of their ongoing mission to plant 18 billion fruit trees around the world!

Osmosus will donate $1 to FTPF for each of our first 10,000 new members.

The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation’s primary goal is to plant trees that yield edible fruits, nuts, leaves, or roots, thus spreading life-sustaining ecological diversity throughout the world. Fruit trees are planted alongside other soil-building flora, native and medicinal trees and shrubs, hardwoods, and plants that contribute to sustainability.

Osmosus is proud to participate and sponsor an FTPF planting to help directly offset carbon dioxide emissions by creating a public fruit tree orchard in a metropolitan area, which we will be announcing on Osmosus in the upcoming weeks.

Platform Partner

We’re also pleased to announce that we have become The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation’s online community platform partner. We look forward to welcoming, and engaging with, their supporters through the The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation’s Green Space on Osmosus.

Our partnership with FTPF is the perfect kick-start to our mission of generating positive change with Social Energy for a Green Planet. We know how impactful their work is and we share their love for fruit trees, respect for nature, and a desire to foster a harmonious relationship between people and the environment, plants, and animals.

We want our new members to know that just by joining Osmosus they are already having a positive impact!

Getting Good to Go!

Monday, March 16th, 2009

It’s been too long since I’ve updated our Osmosus blog. We’ve really been working on Social Energy for a Green Planet! It’s been an unbelievably busy few months of 2009 working on the business and now we are gearing up for some very exciting times ahead, and I am pledging to keep this space more active going forward.

Firstly, I am excited to announce that we’re going to move out of our private beta period with a proper public launch. Watch for details here very soon!

We received some really, really fantastic feedback from many of you in our Osmosus community when we launched the private beta – thank you all so much! - and as a result have improved a host features and functions as well as added a whole range of new ones.

There were many bug fixes and improvements too many to list here but you will notice that things look better, work better and run faster.

We also added a range of new functionality including:

· Integrated more news and information adding The Canadian Press to our roster.

· Improved the look and functionality of the Forums

· Improved the Posting Editor and, probably more importantly, the instructions for the Posting Editor which now reside with Johnny Osmosus.

· Added (finally – highly requested feature) the ability for members to create and change their custom passwords.

· Added the ability for members to spread the exciting news of Osmosus with a new Invite Friends feature that lets you easily invite folks from your contact lists in Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo.

· Added a new Osmosus news section to the Homepage to help keep our members informed

· Improved the whole joining experience to make it easier and more informative

· And, as I mentioned, many more bug and under-the-hood improvements.

We’ll still be in an ongoing technical beta period when we launch, constantly improving the site and adding exciting new features and functions, however we are confident in the current version and ready to widen our audience and build our community. Of course, we will always be open to feedback on improvements and welcome your comments and suggestions here or you can always send email to feedback@osmosus.com

Welcome to the Official Osmosus Blog

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Hello and welcome! This is the first post on our new Osmosus Blog. We’ve established this blog as a place outside of the Osmosus environment to discuss the world of Osmosus and leave Osmosus as a place to discuss the world. We hope that it will be useful and ongoing dialogue with ourselves and Osmosans.

It’s been an exciting time getting Osmosus from conception to execution over the last year or so. There have been many people involved in the ongoing evolution of ideas, design and programming. We are extremely grateful to a whole host of people who have gone above and beyond, giving their time and expertise to help Osmosus become a reality.

Since our friends and family invitational beta launch in late October we have been working in the background with the excellent feedback we received to tweak some elements of Osmosus and to add a few necessary improvements and features. We hope to have them released in the next few days. Expect to see a detailed post about them soon.

As we continue to improve, we hope you will continue to get value from Osmosus and that together we really can generate some Social Energy for a Green Planet.
